We know that tourism has an impact, and we believe it’s our responsibility to understand that impact and continuously work to reduce it. From the way we build and maintain our facilities to the products we use and the experiences we offer, sustainability guides many of our day-to-day decisions.

Through detailed emissions benchmarking and ongoing sustainability initiatives, we’re taking practical steps towards a lower-carbon future while creating meaningful experiences for our guests. We continually review our operations and look for practical ways to reduce waste, conserve resources, support biodiversity, and strengthen our connection to Country.

Across the park, we’re continually working to reduce waste, conserve resources, and improve efficiency. Some of our initiatives include:

• Using environmentally friendly cleaning products
• Eliminating single-use room amenities and plastic
• Reducing unnecessary waste and encouraging guests to reduce and recycle waste during their stay and beyond
• Providing recycling and waste separation stations throughout the park
• Composting food scraps and organic waste wherever possible
• Maintaining a kitchen garden and chickens that contribute to a more circular approach to food
• Prioritising local and Indigenous-owned suppliers
• Conserving water through rainwater collection, low-flow fixtures, and drought-tolerant landscaping
• Planting native trees and vegetation to support biodiversity
• Investing in solar power, battery storage, and energy-efficient infrastructure upgrades
• Moving towards a greater user of renewable energy across the park
• Reusing and repurposing materials wherever possible during construction and refurbishment projects

We know that small actions can make a big difference when combined over time, and we’re committed to continually finding new ways to improve.

One of the things that makes Tathra Beach Eco Camp so special is coexisting with the abundance of wildlife that calls this area home. We are incredibly fortunate to share this space with kangaroos, echidnas, sugar gliders, possums, native birdlife, and more, and have made the responsible decision not to allow pets within our campground to help protect these local species.

Our dedicated macropod habitat area provides a safe space for kangaroos and other native wildlife, while native planting programs and strategically placed habitat boxes support local biodiversity. Throughout the park, you’ll find specially designed homes for sugar gliders, possums, owls, microbats, and a variety of native birds, helping to create a thriving environment for the wildlife that lives here.

We encourage guests to slow down, observe, and respectfully coexist with the animals that call this place home. We love to keep our wildlife wild and safe, so please take only photos from a respectful distance, never offer human food, and as cuddly as they may look, resist the urge to touch or interfere with them.

Through habitat protection, revegetation, and thoughtful park design, we’re helping to create a place where both people and wildlife can thrive together.

Many of our sustainability initiatives are woven into the everyday guest experience.

At Wattleseed Café, we embrace a low-waste approach with no single-use plastics. We serve locally roasted coffee in reusable Pottery For The Planet mugs and showcase local produce wherever possible, supporting regional suppliers while celebrating the flavours of the Sapphire Coast.

We recognise that campfires are an important part of the camping experience, bringing people together to connect, share stories, and slow down. To help protect the environment and ensure guest safety, we provide designated fire pits throughout the park, including a central gathering area. Our team provides a starter load of firewood and helps manage these spaces to ensure campfires remain controlled and responsible.

Our commitment to nature extends to the way we design and build throughout the park. From our nature-based playground, constructed using natural materials, to ongoing landscaping and habitat restoration projects, we aim to create spaces that blend with the environment rather than compete with it.

Environmental sustainability and cultural sustainability go hand in hand. We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Djiringanj people of Yuin Country, the Traditional Custodians of this land.

Through our Cultural & Yarn Time Area, bush tucker talks, language sharing, and opportunities to learn from local knowledge holders, we encourage guests to develop a deeper understanding of Country, culture, and connection.
